About Fengate Dartmoors

The Fengate Stud was founded in 1986, 6 years after we had purchased our first Dartmoor pony. With a young competitive family we became very performance orientated and were lucky enough to own some very talented ponies. To name a few:- Camford Orchid who was nicknamed the "Jumping Dartie" competing very successfully in 12.2 hh show jumping (one season winning 13 successive open competitions) and throughout a winter season against horses regularly being in the final line up against 16.2hh horses! Wendel Sweet William who qualified for the NPS WHP final when it was held at Malvern six years on the trot and qualifying the first year it was held at HOYS in its Wembley days and was the first Dartmoor to be placed in this very prestigious competition. Wendel St. George a superb open ridden pony, Fairmarsh Maytime and Wrydecroft Pippa Both super lead rein ponies with a long list of prize tallies to their names.

Fairmarsh Maytime then became one of the Stud's foundation mares breeding some superb top class prize winning stock, to name a few Fengate Sweet Sensation, Fengate Touch of Class, all Champions in their own right.

The Stud has evolved over the past few years with our children having flown the nest and grandchildren carrying on in ridden classes, now with grandchildren growing and some living in America we are concentrating on breeding the ideal child's pony.

The Stud has their own home bred stallion Fengate Mars Man, who due to family commitments hasn't been shown since he was a foal when he was unbeaten. He is siring good stock which we are very pleased with.

Mare & Foal

All our ponies are well handled from birth. They are all used to other animals, machinery, and are well socialised. They are bred to be children's friends, while doing well in hand and under saddle.

We have also had Part Bred's during the years - Blairhill Samba being our main performance pony who competed not only in ridden and WHP classes but very successfully in affiliated BSJA jumping to Junior Foxhunter standard. We now have a lovely Part Bred mare who we hope will breed some nice Hunter type ponies.

Very regrettably due to Tom's unforeseen heart problems we are having to reduce our stock at the present time and are offering several ponies for sale. Please see Stock For Sale page.
